WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF HALLOWEEN?
The origin of Halloween began over 2000 years ago in England, Ireland, and Northern France. It was a Celtic celebration of the new year, called Samhain that occurred on November 1.
The Celtic druids revered it as the biggest day of the year and emphasized that day as the time when the souls of the dead would mingle with the living.
People would gather to light bonfires, offer sacrifices and pay homage to the deceased.
With some Celtic celebrations of Samhain, the village people put on costumes to disguise their self. The costumes were made of animal skins to drive away phantoms; food tables were prepared and edible offerings were left out to placate unwelcome spirits.
Later in the centuries history shows people began to dress as ghosts, demons and other evil creatures. They would perform tricks in exchange for food and drink.
This tradition, known as mumming, is how trick-or-treating began. It’s roots are pagan and demonic.
SHOULD CHRISTIANS TAKE PART IN HALLOWEEN?
Anton LaVey – The founder of the church of satan said:
“I am glad that Christian parents let their children worship the devil at least one night out of the year. Welcome to Halloween.”
DOES HALLOWEEN PROMOTE PEACE OR GOOD?
Is the Halloween uplifting? Is it pure? Is it lovely, praiseworthy, or of good report?
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
Halloween is not founded on godly themes such as:
Peace – Freedom – Salvation
Instead it brings to mind feelings of fear, obsession and bondage
GOD’S WORD IS CLEAR THAT HE HATES THE WORK OF SORCERY
“When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you … one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord.”
WE SHOULD EXPOSE THE DARKNESS RATHER THAN TAKE PART OF IT
“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.”
This verse instructs us to not only have no association with any type of dark activity BUT ALSO to shed Light upon it!
GOD IS CALLING FOR HIS PEOPLE TO COME OUT FROM AMONG THEM
2 Corinthians 6:17-18
17 “Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
And I will receive you.”
18 “I will be a Father to you,
And you shall be My sons and daughters,
Says the Lord Almighty.”
